Protect
Adults play a big role in keeping children safe online. You may think your friends and acquaintances would never harass or intimidate children—but sadly, it happens, and you don’t know it will until it does.
Parents: remember that not all adults in your life are stable or safe online. Sometimes hidden issues only appear in digital spaces, and they can come as a surprise to everyone.
My own experience
When I was 15, Instagram suggested my account to an adult who then harassed me. I realized this was not just about me, but about thousands of kids online.
If you see a child’s account recommended to you—don’t click to connect. If you genuinely want to connect, speak with the parents and suggest that the child reach out to you instead.
